The Caretaker

A short horror game experience for the 2025 Themed Horror Game Jam #22.

My theme was Polar Expedition. I took inspiration from horror films such as Cabin in the Woods, Hereditary, and The Ritual.

You play as a caretaker for a cabin in the woods during its off-season. Meet up with the owner, get into your routine, and then try to survive.

Warning: There is some nudity, but no genitalia is shown

***KNOWN BUG***

Sometimes, the audio resets back to 0 when loading a new level. You can change this in the options. I have been trying to find and fix the bug.

Developer Retrospective:

I had fun making this game. It was my first successful solo development. I had to cut some corners and make the game shorter and less fleshed out than I wanted to. I think I did a great job on the creation of the cabin and the sound design, as well as some of the animations I made. The cabin structure was created entirely by me and filled with pre-made assets I paid for or got open source. Things I would improve upon are focusing on the gameplay aspects, increasing the scary moments throughout, and working more on Inventory and Save State implementation.
